We hate to have to say this… your target audience could be skipping right over you… YEP. It’s true. And this is no bueno. In fact, we want different for you.
Are you noticing slow or {gasp} non-existent growth rates on Instagram? There's a big chance that you just aren't attracting the right community!
Every coach and social media influencer is going to tell you that you need to find your clients' pain points and struggles. You need to have a clear vision of what she is interested in.
Of course, there are traditional factors for targeting your audience and it definitely works BUT ... if you want to find a genuine community you have to dig deep.
When your social networks are attracting the right people, you then have a much better chance of building a meaningful community, making an impact, and creating more income.
Whether you’re just starting out or you’re looking to refine your existing feed, the most important thing you can do is to narrow down your niche.
We know, we know, that big scary word.
It’s totally OK to share a variety of content but you need to have an overriding “theme” that your audience can depend on and identify to you. They need to be able to relate to it… that’s the first step to building your community.
Let’s break it down.
A potential follower stumbles upon your ‘Gram. They should be able to know instantly what you’re all about - and if they possibly have similar interests and values to you.
You can’t just declare yourself a “Travel Influencer”.
You have to dig deeper.
Narrow this down.
Tell them something interesting about the way you travel.
What kind of travel photos do you take?
Are you a slow traveler or a fast traveler?
Before you do ANYTHING on your Instagram account, you need to make sure that your bio is crystal clear on who you are, who you work with and what kind of content they can expect.
You’ve decided your niche.
Who they are.
What they do.
Who they work with.
Now… it’s time to engage.
It’s time to start reaching out to similar accounts.
You stumble across someone whose Gram shares the same values, the same content, the same style or something you can relate to. You go comment on their posts and check out their stories with meaningful words that stir up some conversation.
And listen up, don’t get upset if you don’t get a response and certainly don’t concentrate on trying to only befriend accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers. We want you to take your time and engage with people that you really, truly want to get to know.
We know, we know. Everyone leads really busy lives. But 15 minutes in the AM over your morning cup of Joe and 15 minutes in the PM over your evening glass of Margarita will do wonders.
AND… chances are that when these people have replied to your comment, they’ll click on over to your ‘Gram to see if you’re the kind of person they’d like to continue engaging with. Be sure that you are by interacting with people with similar interests to the content that you post.
We promise you that if you do this DAILY… you will get 5-10 TRUE followers per day.
Finding your community can also be done by searching through hashtags related to you and your brand. You all know how much we love hashtags. So let's work through this.
Your brand targets young business owners. Start searching through #millennialentrepreneur or #millennialblogger. Start building a list of 7-10 hashtags that sound familiar based around your target audience and start searching these hashtags.
Remember, the best hashtags are the ones that speak your customers’ language. And how do you find these hashtags? RESEARCH.
So let’s start researching.
Head to the Instagram app. Tap on the magnifying glass icon. Select “tags” from the dropdown menu and enter a hashtag that is you think may relate to your brand, one at a time. As you’re searching, the search will reveal all the top hashtags you can use to reach and engage with your community.
